More than 40 million Americans have diabetes (about 1 in 8), and about 90% to 95% of them have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes most often develops in people 45 or older, but more and more children, teens, and young adults are also developing it. (source: CDC)

Type 2 diabetes happens when the body cannot use insulin correctly and sugar builds up in the blood. It was once called adult-onset diabetes.

Over time, high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart. This can happen because the pancreas doesn’t make enough of a hormone called insulin that helps sugar enter the cells. It happens also because the cells respond poorly to insulin by taking in less sugar.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of a once daily oral investigational medicine compared with another oral investigational medicine in adults with T2DM with increased cardiovascular risk that is inadequately managed with a stable dose of up to 2 glucose-lowering medications.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, have a diagnosis of T2DM with inadequately managed T2DM for at least 90 days prior to the first visit. Participants must also have an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Other criteria must be met at the Visit 1 screening.

There is no cost to participate.  Volunteers receive no cost investigational medicine and no cost health exams.  No insurance needed.  Reimbursement for time and travel up is TBD.
